  • The Shawnee Tribe is one of three federally recognized Shawnee tribes located in Oklahoma.
  • The Shawnee Tribe was formerly known as the Loyal Shawnee, having served in the Union Army while in Kansas.
  • In 1869, some of the (Loyal) Shawnee received allotments through the Cherokee Nation, thus being referred to as Cherokee Shawnee.
  • The Shawnee Tribe was officially separated from the Cherokee in 2000 as a sovereign federally recognized tribe.
